THQ WIRELESS TO OFFER FULL SERVICE IN RUSSIA AND CIS MARKET
Fully Localized Mobile Games Specifically Designed for the Market
31 October 2006 - Woking, UK - THQ Wireless® (THQW) today announced the formation of a representative agreement with SmartPhoneLabs Content (SPL Content) to bring THQW mobile phone games to Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) market, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan.
"According to Informa's World Cellular Information Service, there are more than 130 million mobile phone subscribers in Russia and Ukraine alone, and subscriber numbers continue to grow at rapid rate," said THQ Wireless International's Vice President, Adam Comiskey. Offering full service to this region is a strategic imperative for THQ Wireless as we seek to deliver our content to all relevant markets worldwide."
"Having been a THQ Wireless global i-mode partner since 2004, we are very excited to expand our collaboration and become a THQ Wireless exclusive distribution partner in Russia & CIS," said Olga Belaya, head of SPL Content and Managed Services at SmartPhone Labs. "The local market is poised for explosive growth and its current need for globally recognized high quality mobile content is perfectly matched with the fantastic portfolio of game titles and world-famous brands brought by THQ Wireless."
Successful business relationships have been set-up with operators to date for non-localized content, so this move will now fully realize the potential of the region. SPL Content is a partner who has worked with THQ Wireless in European markets and will now represent the company in Russia and CIS as the official representative of THQW content as well as managing brand guardianship.
Following the THQ Wireless model of direct distribution, SPL Content will closely manage the performance of THQW brands in the region, including launch, coordinated promotion, handset support/localization, and customer support.
Eighteen English language game titles are scheduled to launch in November 2006, including major entertainment brands Worms, MotoGP and Star Wars as well THQ brands: Saints Row TM, Destroy All Humans!® 2 and Company of Heroes TM. Before the end of 2006, Russian language versions of these and new titles are expected to become available.
