THQ confirms WALL/E rights

THQ has announced that it has obtained the rights to publish a videogame based on the forthcoming WALL/E movie from Disney/Pixar.

THQ has announced that it has obtained the rights to publish a videogame based on the forthcoming WALL/E movie from Disney/Pixar.

The move is part of a long-standing agreement dating back to 2004 that THQ has with the movie studio for publishing rights to four new properties, of which last year's Ratatouille was the first, and this will be the second.

Development on the game will be undertaken by THQ's internal Heavy Iron Studios and although a release date has not been specified, it is expected that the game will ship at roughly the same time as the film comes out, in the summer of 2008.

The animated feature revolves around the adventures of two robots, WALL/E and EVE, who discover the key to Earth's future. The game will take control of the two main characters in a fast-paced action adventure.

The game will be released on all formats, including consoles, handhelds, PC, Mac and wireless devices, and will build on the 35 million unit shipments that the publishing partnership between THQ and Disney/Pixar has already yielded.
