THQ and Random House enter 'transmedia' agreement
Publishers to create and curate new IP across books, games and other media
THQ and Random House Publishing have entered into a business agreement which will see the two companies collaborate on creating and curating new IP across a range of books, games and other media.
The deal seems focused on the extension and expansion of IP to extend shelf life and fan engagement, much in the way which Random House's recent Homefront prequel novel was intended to. The press release also makes mention of the intention to capitalise on Random House's experience with 'world bibles'.
"Working with THQ has been nothing less than a huge pleasure for us, and we have very lofty goals for where this project will go," said director of creative development at Random House, Keith Clayton.
"It's really inspiring to work side-by-side with partners who share our creative passions as well as our view on the evolution of the entertainment industry. We truly think that this is the new direction for entertainment, and we're proud to be leading the way as we provide a platform for storytellers to have their visions realized across multiple mediums."
"This collaboration is a shining example of how we can generate interesting and exciting publishing opportunities as our various media continue to converge," added THQ's Lenny Brown.
"Working with the incredible team at Random House, we expect to build a huge IP universe from the ground up, exploring the characters, settings, and stories of these worlds in ways that let each medium do what it does best, and giving fans a truly unequalled experience. We hope to make this relationship the gold standard in transmedia."
THQ's most recent success has come in the form of Homefront, which went straight to number one in both UK and US charts, and WWE All Stars, which has hit seventh in this week's UK sales ladder.
