The Last of Us, Tearaway, Gone Home lead GDC Award noms

High-profile Sony games join Fullbright Company debut with five nominations a piece

The final nominees for this year's Game Developers Choice Award have been announced, and the honored games represent an impressive cross-section of the diversity on display in the industry these days.

Leading the pack with five nominations each were a pair of Sony titles--Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic PS3 blockbuster The Last of Us and Media Molecule's PS Vita-exclusive papercraft platformer Tearaway--as well as The Fullbright Company's PC environmental storytelling game Gone Home. Following close behind were Rockstar's open-world crime game Grand Theft Auto V and Galactic Café's experimental first-person game The Stanley Parable, each of which garnered nominations in four categories.

As for Game of the Year, the games in the running for that designation include the aforementioned Gone Home, Grand Theft Auto V, and The Last of Us, as well as Nintendo's Super Mario 3D World and Square Enix's Tomb Raider reboot. As in previous years, the GDC Awards had a nominations process open to industry professionals, with winners chosen by the International Choice Awards Network, "an invitation-only organization comprised of leading game creators from all parts of the industry."

The GDC Awards will be given out March 19 during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. A list of the main categories and nominees follows below. There will also be an Audience Award given out based on an online poll that will open in February.
