The Ivors reveals game soundtrack nominations
Killzone 2, Empire: Total War, Savage Moon shortlisted for inaugural award
The nominees for the 55th Ivor Novello Awards have been revealed, and among them the first three games to be considered for an Ivor under its new games score category.
Killzone 2 composer Joris de Man is one nominee, and Sony/Fluffy Logic title Savage Moon: Waldgeist's composer Armin Elsaesser has also received a nomination.
The third shortlisted game is Empire: Total War from Creative Assembly and SEGA, which featured a soundtrack composed jointly by Richard Beddow, Richard Birdsall, Walter Mair and Lorenzo Piggici.
As announced earlier in the year, the 55th Ivors will be the first to recognise music from videogames.
"The Ivors has always sought to reflect the ever-changing world of songwriting and composing," said Mark Fishlock, director of the Ivors Committee. "The video games market has matured beyond recognition and big budget orchestral scores are regularly being commissioned.
"Writing music for games also requires a number of specialist skills compared with conventional film scoring, such as non-linear and multi-layered composition. This is a very exciting development and one which hopefully will be fully embraced by the rapidly growing games world."
The Ivors award ceremony will take place on May 20 at Grosvenor House in London.
Awards will be presented to the best of British song writers by BASCA in association with PRs for Music.
