The Elder Scrolls Online honored with inaugural GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Video Game
LGBTQ media advocacy group confers honor for quest in Summerset expansion to reunite a transgender woman with estranged sister
Last night, LGBTQ media advocacy organization GLAAD conferred its inaugural award for Outstanding Video Game on The Elder Scrolls Online: Summerset at the 30th annual GLAAD Media Awards.
GLAAD first announced the new category late last year, marking the first time the organization has recognized video games in its annual media awards. The Outstanding Video Game award is conferred upon a title released or substantially updated in the prior year with "outstanding LGBTQ-inclusive content."
The Elder Scrolls Online's Summerset expansion was selected for a questline entitled "Manor of Masques," in which the player helps a transgender woman reunite with her estranged twin sister while addressing topics of coming out and acceptance.
Other nominees included Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, and The Sims Mobile.
"The video game landscape is ever-expanding, and it's critical that all players see themselves represented fairly and accurately in the content," said GLAAD chief programs officer Zeke Stokes. "LGBTQ people are an important and growing part of the gaming community, and we are so proud to honor an impressive slate of nominees in this first year."
