The 2007 Game Developers Conference Storms Into San Francisco; Game Makes Converge On World's Largest Industry-Only Event To Take Control Of The Future Of The Game Industry

Attendees to Gain Knowledge and Seize Opportunities Enabled Through Next-Generation Platforms, Diversification in Videogame Play

SAN FRANCISCO - Mar. 5, 2007 - CMP Technology's Game Developers Conference (GDC), now entering its 20th year, kicks off today at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco. Game developers, publishers, industry enthusiasts and members of the working press have gathered for the world's largest industry-only event dedicated to the advancement of resources, tools, and technologies used to create interactive entertainment. The conference will run through March 9.

The CMP Game Group, organizers of the conference, increased both the conference capacity and expo show floor size for this year's event. This growth provides more opportunities for developers, tools and service providers, publishers and key industry players, accommodating the need for a global, one-stop shop game creation event.

"Our guiding philosophy for the GDC is to stay true to our core audience - game developers. We continue to focus on delivering learning, inspiration, and networking opportunities to all the individuals who make games," said Jamil Moledina, executive director of the Game Developers Conference. "With next-generation systems now being new generation, the theme for GDC 2007, Take Control, will address how industry professionals can harness new creative processes, production methods, and business models to forge their own direction in the game industry."

This year's keynote addresses will be presented by two heavyweights of the games business. Videogame development legend Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo's Senior Managing Director and General Manager, Entertainment Analysis & Development Division and creator of world-renowned software like the Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda will present the talk, "A Creative Vision." Phil Harrison, President, Worldwide Studios, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE), will return to the GDC to present "Game 3.0: Developing and Creating for the Third Age of Video Games."

The conference features more than 350 lectures, panels, tutorials and roundtable discussions covering all aspects of the game business. The week long event will feature the GDC Expo, GDC Mobile, the Serious Games Summit GDC, the Independent Games Festival (IGF), the Game Developers Choice Awards, Game Connection, and Video Games Live. The event will also see the addition of a casual/independent games reception and an Independent Games Summit to augment the IGF, the first and most prestigious game innovation laboratory.

GDC 2008 will return to the Moscone Center West and North in San Francisco, CA. The industry-leading event will take place February 18 - 22, 2008. For a complete list of GDC 2007 event information, please visit www.gdconf.com.
