Tetris slots into first place in the UK download charts
Jamdat's version of classic puzzler tops the November hit list
The official UK mobile download chart for November shows continued success for Tetris, which is still hanging onto the top spot. It's published by Jamdat, which acquired a 15-year worldwide wireless telephony license for the brand early last year.
Originally created in the former Soviet Union in 1985, Tetris remains one of the most recognisable brands in the gaming industry and continues to prove exceptionally popular, maintaining its position as one of the top selling mobile games around the world.
Arcade classics and traditional parlour and board games continue to dominate the mobile space, with Namco's Pac-Man holding fourth place, Gameloft's Block Breaker Deluxe in fifth position and iFone's mobile variant of the classic board game Monopoly resting at number seven.
The growing interest of traditional videogames publishers and the adoption of major videogame brands is beginning to show its impact on the charts, as EA Sports' Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 - published by Iplay - climbs into second place.
Following closely behind in third place is the acclaimed mobile version of cult gaming franchise Doom; which is proving to be another huge success for Jamdat. The UK rankings are noticeably dominated by Iplay however, who published almost half of the titles in the November top ten. Jamdat and Gameloft both have two titles in the listing, while the remaining two slots fall to Namco and iFone in fourth and seventh place respectively.
The mobile movie tie-in for King Kong, which has jumped into pole position in the all-formats videogame sales charts, could well show a significant presence in the mobile space over the coming weeks, and there's plenty of scope for change as the new year brings with it a catalogue of new releases - both from the traditional parlour and casual games genre and also through the increasing convergence with the traditional gaming industry.
