TeliaSonera expands US presence

European carrier hails "new possibilities" for clients connecting to "global IP backbone"

TeliaSonera International Carrier has announced that it has expanded its US operations, connecting its existing network including Buffalo, Cleveland and Washington to Charlotte and Pheonix.

The Sweden-based telecoms giant handles a number of high profile games clients, and provides networking options for companies including Blizzard Europe (with World of Warcraft) and Ankama (with DOFUS).

"This increased expansion of the US network is strategically important and helps us maintain our position as one of the largest global IP carriers," said Paul Dahlgren, VP and head of product & business management at TeliaSonera. "Moreover, the extended network enhances our service offering to our US based customers.

"In light of the TeliaSonera group being one of the largest operators in Europe with more than 150 years in the business and with 150 million mobile subscribers, we believe our customers in the US are considering us being a very competitive alternative," he added.

An interview with Vlad Ihora, TeliaSonera's head of games - in which he explains how the business has grown its presence in the games industry, and looks at technologies such as OnLive from the carrier's perspective - is available now.
