FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LOS ANGELES, Calif. May 18, 2005 - At the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Tecmo® announced that the next installment in its Japanese style survival horror series, Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented, plans to spread its curse onto store shelves this Fall for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system. Along with the exciting announcement, E3 attendees and fans of the franchise were able to see their first glimpse of Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented as Tecmo unveiled a new mentally disturbing Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented trailer during the pre-show event at the Tecmo booth. The horrific imagery, ghastly apparitions, and unnerving sounds filling the screen during the showing of the trailer left E3 attendees chilled, thrilled, and excited to play the new survival horror title when it launches on PlayStation®2 later this year.
About Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented
Taking the popular Japanese Horror theme to a whole new terrifying level, Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented is a complete Japanese Horror interactive experience as the player takes on the role of Rei Kurosawa, a cursed young woman whose overwhelming guilt and tormented dreams lead her into a formidable world where the lines between reality and nightmares are blurred and the only way out is to solve the mystery of the tattoo. What the player will see in Rei's dreams is only the beginning of the nightmare, making Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented the most terrifying virtual experience to date.
The storyline of Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented follows the life and loss of Rei Kurosawa who loses her fiance in a horrible car accident where she was driving the car. Consumed with guilt and unimaginable mourning, her tormented dreams quickly turn into nightmares, as she is lead into the "House of Sleep". It is here that she encounters the most hideously tortured souls who are being overtaken by a curse and a deadly tattoo. The only clues into the mystery of the curse of the tattoo are from the pictures Rei takes while in the "House of Sleep" using the Camera Obscura as not only her weapon against evil souls but as a guide. Every morning she awakens to find that the tattoo that started on her shoulder continues to form and spread over her entire body, her only way out of the curse is to find the truth. As Rei learns more about the House of Sleep and the lost souls within, the lines between reality and sleep become blurred creating a story of fear, torment, and pain beyond anything players have ever experienced.
Differing from its predecessors, Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented boasts multi-playable characters, as Miku Hinasaki, the main character from the original Fatal Frame, and Kei Amakura, a friend of Rei and young journalist, become fully playable in Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented. This new feature adds new depth and strategy to the gameplay as each character has their own unique special abilities that the player will have to take advantage of in order to complete each mission, and make it out of the "House of Sleep" alive. Based on the character's special abilities and the object of each mission, the player will have to use strategy in skill to choose the best character to play to complete the mission and continue on in the game.
Using all three characters and the Camera Obscura as both a guide and a weapon against the tormented souls that roam the halls of the "House of Sleep," the player will once again become entranced in the world of Fatal Frame where what you can not see, scares you the most, even in your dreams
Fatal Frame 3: The Tormented will be the most terrifying Japanese Horror interactive experience to date as it plans to ship to nationwide retailers for PlayStation®2 this Fall.
