Teatime Games raises $9 million for mobile gaming communication platform
Funding sources included Supercell investors Index Ventures and Atomico
Teatime Games has raised a total of $9 million across a seed funding round and a Series A funding round. The funds will go toward development of a real-time communication platform that can be used in various mobile games.
Investors included Index Ventures, a venture capital firm that has also invested in companies such as Clash Royale developer Supercell and Candy Crush developer King. Atomico, which has also helped fund Supercell as well as Angry Birds developer Rovio, was also named as a lead investor.
Teatime Games is an Icelandic development company founded in 2017 by former members of Plain Vanilla Games, the creators of QuizUp. The studio's goal is to create a platform for social, multiplayer mobile gaming experiences with a focus on communication between players.
"We are building Teatime Games on the premise that mobile games players crave a more social and personalized experience than they are currently getting, where communicating with friends and fellow players in real-time not only enhances a game but is as important as the game itself," said CEO and co-founder Thor Fridriksson. "That's why we're developing the first real-time communication gaming platform for mobile."
Funds raised will go toward doubling the Teatime team, particularly software engineers, and to continue development on the communication platform to better integrate with third parties.
