Speaking in an interview on GamesIndustry.biz today, Team 17 studio director Martyn Brown has argued that "opportunities for developing new IP are extremely limited" due to commercial pressures on developers.

Brown named the high production costs for console titles and "largely risk-averse" publishers for the increasing difficulty of launching original titles or new IPs into the marketplace.

Also in today's interview, Brown talks about his company's next title, an update to the Worms franchise being published by Codemasters, the question of whether 2D games can make it in the market any more, and Team 17's unsuccessful attempts to resurrect the classic Alien Breed in new guises.
