Target sells Xbox 360 for $299

Retailer lets slip one of the key predictions for Microsoft's E3 reveal

US retailer Target has started accepting orders for Xbox 360 consoles at the new lower price of USD 299, rather than the standard price of USD 349, lending weight to the recent speculation that Microsoft is set to announce a USD 50 price cut for its console during E3 week.

A price drop for the console, which contains a 20GB hard drive, was thought by analysts to have been one of the key tenets of Microsoft's press conference, which will take place on Monday.

Among other possible revelations are new peripherals and controllers for the Xbox 360, as well as a link-up with Netflix on the movie download front.

No price cuts for other Xbox 360 SKUs seem to have been leaked, as yet.
