SupersonicAds gets $2m from ex-Skype boss

London-based virtual currency firm counts Playdom, Bigpoint and NHN among its customers

London-based virtual goods and in-game advertising developer SupersonicAds has seen a $2 million round of investment, lead by former Skype CEO Michael van Swaaij.

SuperSonicAd's tech grants gamers virtual currency for around 150 social network and MMO games, in exchange for signing up to affiliate deals offered by the likes of Netflix, Pepsi and Nokia.

The company claims to have signed up over 450 advertisers to date, and counts among its customers Playdom, Bigpoint, NHN, IMVU and Playspan.

As well as his brief stint at Skype, van Swaaij was formerly chief strategy officer at eBay and boss of eBay Europe.

"I have seen the exponential growth in monetisation of virtual goods over the past several years," he said. "SupersonicAds has created a customized technology and proven itself as the leader in Europe for virtual goods monetisation and is steadily gaining strength as a leader on a more global scale."
