Supercell, Rovio, and Space Ape sign up for One Special Day 2018
SpecialEffect hopes to break $1 million total raised as charity event prepares for third year
SpecialEffect has today announced a slew of developers set to take part in this year's One Special Day.
Now in its third year, One Special Day is the largest annual fundraising event supported by the games industry.
The event -- which takes place on the last Friday of September every year -- has so far raised $700,000 for the accessibility charity over the past two years.
This year, SpecialEffect hopes to tip the total amount earned through One Special Day over the $1 million mark.
The money will go toward supporting the work of SpecialEffect, helping it meet the demand of its services such as adapting, modifying, or creating custom-built hardware and software to enable gamers with disabilities.
On September 28, developers taking part will raise money through donating UK or worldwide revenue of in-game sales from top earning mobile games such as Clash of Clans or Angry Birds 2.
Developers already signed up for this year include Supercell, Rovio, Nordeus, Space Ape, First Touch Games, New Star Games, Seriously, Lockwood Publishing, Outfit7, Miniclip, Fingersoft, Dots, MAG Interactive, DirtyBit, Glu and Boombit/Play With Games.
Anette Ståløy of Norwegian developer, Dirtybit said: "We at Dirtybit are very glad to take part in One Special Day by donating revenue from Fun Run 3 on September 28, to help SpecialEffect keep creating magic moments through games, helping disabled gamers having fun playing games not only with their friends and family but with gamers from anywhere in the world."
John Earner, CEO and founder of Space Ape echoed the sentiment, saying: "We're delighted to be able to support such a terrific cause. We will be donating UK revenue from all of our four live titles on September 28. Join us!"
Additionally, PC and console games companies will be donating titles to a One Special Day Humble Bundle and holding a range of fundraising events to raise money on the day.
