Super Mario Bros. Movie grosses $1bn globally

The Nintendo and Illumination film hits the revenue milestone after nearly a month in theaters

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has generated over $1 billion at the global box office.

As reported by Variety, the Nintendo and Illumination motion picture is the first film of 2023 to hit the figure.

It crosses the $1 billion mark after nearly a month in theaters. The revenue split was estimated to be $487.5 million for North America and $533 million internationally.

The big-screen adaptation joins Spider-Man: No Way Home, Top Gun: Maverick, Jurassic World Dominion, and Avatar: The Way of Water as another billion-dollar generator since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is also the highest-grossing video game film adaptation, surpassing Sonic The Hedgehog 2.
