Summer of Arcade pushes XBLA sales up 200%

Trials HD, Shadow Complex, help Microsoft become "the leader in digitally distributed games"

Microsoft has said that its Summer of Arcade promotion helped revenues grow on the Xbox Live service by over 200 per cent.

The Summer of Arcade promotion – running from June to August – included the release of a number of high-profile games. Trials HD, Marvel Vs Capcom 2 and Shadow Complex all broke records to become three of the top five highest opening week sellers on XBLA since the service launched.

"It’s clear that we’ve had an incredibly successful summer, and the Xbox Live community loves the innovative gaming experiences we deliver," offered Scott Austin, director of digitally distributed games on Xbox Live.

"We are the leader in digitally distributed games, have the best partners in the industry and work closely with them to offer the best in downloadable content and entertainment."

EA's Battlefield 1943 became one of the best-selling summer releases, said Microsoft, while the beta of 1 Vs 100 was downloaded nearly three million times during its 13 week run.
