Steam breaks 18m concurrent users with largest growth in platform's history
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds accounts for 16% of all concurrent users
Steam has reached a new peak of 18.5 million concurrent users, up by over four million since January 2017.
According to Steam Database, the monolithic digital distributor broke 18 million concurrent users for the first time earlier today, marking the largest annual growth in the platform's history.
It's worth noting that concurrent users equates to the number of people logged into the platform, and not necessarily playing a game, which reached seven million.
As reported by our colleagues at VG24/7, this figure is up by 13 million since 2012.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds meteoric rise no doubt contributed to the uncharacteristic user spike this year with the game accounting for three million (16%) of all concurrent users, and 42% of all in-game users.
