Square Enix seeking US partners

Japanese publisher Square Enix is actively seeking a partner in the US in the hope of generating half of its overall revenues outside of Japan within three years.

The Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest publisher acknowledged that its specialist RPG titles wouldn't generate enough revenue, and that more US-centric content is key to future growth.

"We need to seek cooperation with a US publisher — we need local content," said Michihiro Sasaki, senior VP of Square Enix, reports the FT.com.

"Our strength is in role-playing games and fantasy titles, so it is a bit difficult to appeal to the US market," he said

Currently, only 10 to 20 per cent of Square Enix revenues come from outside of Japan, but Sasaki said that, "within two to three years we want to make it half."
