SportSquad Gets Set for a Season of Sporting Thrills and Spills With its online fantasy league game with prizes at http://www.SportSquad.co.uk

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

An unusual online fantasy sports game, SportSquad ( http://www.SportSquad.co.uk ), where users are invited to create their own squad to compete in leagues encompassing a diverse range of sports, launches this week.

SportSquad is the brainchild of Tim Hammonds and Ged Mirski-Fitton: two Yorkshire sports fans who have combined their passion for sport with their expertise as software engineers to deliver a mixed league gaming experience.

SportSquad allows sports enthusiasts to create a squad of sports men and women from a range of disciplines. Whether their choice is cricket, ice hockey, football or rugby, sports fans simply log on to the website and take the role of sports agent. They can then compete against other online agents, applying their skills and knowledge to select players they predict will do well and hiring and firing players as the season gets underway.

The game is free to register and play, with the opportunity to gain competitive edge by buying extra credits. As well as building a squad, users have access to discussion boards, and sporting event calendars to support their game activities.

The wide sports coverage provided by SportsSquad means office and club communities will have a new dimension to their competitions. For example, they can use the Private League facility to play a Fantasy Cricket game, so only invited members can join in and select test and county players for their SportSquad

Tim Hammonds, SportSquad's technical director, comments: "We all watch and enjoy a wide range of sports and decided it was time to offer an online game which reflected various sporting disciplines on one site. The SportSquad season is underway and already interest in our game is mounting. After all, where else can ice hockey, football, rugby, and cricket fans compete on equal terms?"

He adds: "In trials, many competitors revealed they had paid close attention to sports they might not otherwise watch - suggesting the game is an effective way to promote sporting events to a wider audience."

Notes for Editors

SportSquad Limited is a Yorkshire-based venture. The concept was developed and the site built by a group of software engineers, sports fans, and business people.
