SPIL partners with VZ Network

Making games for Germany's biggest social network - and plans similar deals

Online publisher SPIL GAMES has announced a partnership with VZ Network – meaning it can bring its titles to Germany's biggest social networking service.

While virtually unheard of outside of its home territory, VZ's three sites pull in a total of 17 million German users. SPIL's involvement brings multiplayer gaming to the successful Facebook competitor for the first time.

"We think this will be very popular with the VZ Network community," Peter Driessen, CEO of SPIL GAMES, told GamesIndustry.biz.

"The social network community has such a huge appetite for games - for instance 1.6 million unique visitors had gone to the game platform we developed for Hyves, the largest Dutch social network platform within 2 months.

"We think the fact that this is the first time the VZ Network community can play multiplayer games will also generate excitement from the VZ community."

Driessen was coy about the nature of future expansion plans, but confirmed that more deals were SPIL's goal. "Partnering with social networks is a natural extension of our strategy to bring the world’s best casual games to the online community.

Unfortunately I can’t reveal any additional names or information, but please continue to keep an eye out for news from us in this area."

SPIL currently operates in 45 territories, with UK portals including www.games.co.uk and www.girlgogames.co.uk. Last March, it revealed it had become the world's largest casual game portal.
