SouthPeak acquires Gamecock Media Group

Vocally independent publisher sells to public company

SouthPeak Interactive has acquired Gamecock Media Group, in the same year that has seen the growing publisher appoint former Codemasters exec Jonathan Hales as Euro MD and report a 220 per cent rise in revenues.

The deal will raise some eyebrows – Gamecock's Mike Wilson wrote for GamesIndustry.biz last year detailing his belief that releasing games to please investors and make profit was the wrong way to run a games company. SouthPeak became a public company earlier this year.

"Gamecock brings us a solid slate of upcoming titles, including Legendary, Mushroom Men and Velvet Assassin and supports our strategy of working with independent developers," commented Melanie Mroz, CEO of SouthPeak.

"We are excited to give the Gamecock titles a bigger platform to succeed."

Titles in the SouthPeak portfolio include Monster Madness, Two Worlds and Roogoo.

"We are thrilled to be joining forces with SouthPeak to continue to bring great original titles from independent developers to market with a stronger sales and distribution reach," said Wilson, CEO of Gamecock.

"We have followed each other's progress closely over the last two years, and combining our team with theirs results in a very strong and well-rounded force in the market."

No financial details of the acquisition have yet been made public.
