Sony wins Emmy for Dual Shock, not Sixaxis
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has stated that Sony won an Emmy award for its Dual Shock analog controller - and not the PS3 Sixaxis pad, as the platform holder claimed.
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has stated that Sony won an Emmy award for its Dual Shock analog controller - and not the PS3 Sixaxis pad, as the platform holder claimed.
According to a statement issued by Sony Computer Entertainment America earlier this week, the wireless motion-sensing Sixaxis controller was to be awarded a Technology and Engineering Emmy by NATAS.
This raised questions about why Nintendo hadn't been recognised for the innovative Wii remote controller from some industry watchers - including blogger Sîamus Byrne, who contacted NATAS for clarification.
As reported on Byrne's blog, a NATAS representative stated that claims the Sixaxis had won the award were "incorrect".
"Sony won for their Dual Shock analog controller," the representative continued.
"The award is from the Video Game Technology Group. It was nominated by our internal group and considered along with the Nintendo D-Pad both of which were considered Emmy worthy for the development of the generation of controllers that followed the classic joysticks.
"I would like to confirm that Sony did not win for their PS3 controller, they won for their Dual Shock analog controller."
SCEA was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
