Sony Online Entertainment lays off 5% of workforce
41 full-time employees let go in order to "increase operational efficiency and reduce costs"
Sony Online Entertainment has announced that it is to lay off 41 full-time employees, which equals five per cent of its San Diego-based workforce.
In a statement issued to Massively, the company cited cost reduction and increased operational efficiency as the reasons behind the decision.
"In a move to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs, Sony Online Entertainment has eliminated 5 per cent of its full-time workforce, equalling 41 people," it reads.
"SOE looks forward to continuing its leadership role in the online games industry as it celebrates the highly successful launch of Free Realms, the ten year commemoration of its ground-breaking EverQuest franchise, and the continued performance of the company's other games."
The job roles of those affected are yet to be confirmed.
