Sony expects stronger console sales this year
Company also predicts PSN software sales to triple by the end of fiscal 09
Sony has released details on the number of hardware and software units it expects to sell in the next financial year, with key increases expected for the PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3 consoles.
The company shipped 14.1 million and 10.1 million of those hardware units respectively in the 12 months to the end of March 31, 2009, but it predicts that it will sell 15 million and 13 million respectively in the current fiscal period.
It also expects to see packaged software unit sales inch up from a combined platform total of 237.5 million last year to 240 million this year, while predicting that sales made across the PlayStation Network will triple in that time.
Sony Corporation announced full year losses of over USD 1 billion earlier today, although the PlayStation division managed to more than halve its losses over that period on cost reductions and higher software sales.
