Sony Ericsson boss drops strong hints on PSP phone
"There's a lot of smoke... there must be a fire somewhere" - Nordberg
Bert Nordberg, CEO of Sony Ericsson, has appeared to endorse speculation about an impending Sony gaming phone.
"There's a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somewhere," Nordberg told The Wall Street Journal. "Sony has an extremely strong offering in the gaming market, and that's very interesting."
Images of an apparent prototype PSP-branded phone arrived last month, with Sony initial refuting their veracity before redacting its statement to a 'no comment.'
The WSJ reports Nordberg as talking of making a lot of "noise" with a reveal at February's Modible Word Congress in Barcelona. He also said of Sony Ericsson's lack of a gaming phone to date that "I haven't dug into that history, but the future might be brighter.
"Sony is of course a very strong brand, and why shouldn't we use that? Gaming, including content, is a very interesting proposition."
Nordberg also suggested that Sony's assistance would make striking deals with game publisher easier.
