Sony confirms full PSN services to resume this week

Although Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea will continue to be delayed

Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation Network will be fully restored by the end of this week in America, Europe and Asia, although not in Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea.

Although some services had already resumed earlier in the month, the PlayStation Store was the main feature still missing from the online service, leaving consumers unable to access new content and developers unable to sell digital product.

"We have been conducting additional testing and further security verification of our commerce functions in order to bring the PlayStation Network completely back online so that our fans can again enjoy the first class entertainment experience they have come to love," said Kaz Hirai, executive deputy president of Sony Corporation. "We appreciate the patience and support shown during this time."

The PlayStation Network was taken offline in April after hackers compromised over 77 million user accounts. The downtime is expected to cost the firm in the region of $170 million this financial year.

Services have been further delayed in Japan due to Sony complying with government regulations.
