The Leipziger Messe has appointed Silvana Kürschner (37) as strategy director of the newly created project section "Games Convention Global". The internationally experienced project director will be reporting in future directly to the CEO, Wolfgang Marzin. GC Global will also be taking on new sales and marketing staff.
GC Global is responsible for the expansion of the Games Convention into an international product family. This will be based on already established trade shows such as the European benchmark fair GC – Games Convention (Leipzig) and Games Convention Asia (Singapore) for the Asia-Pacific region. A new games show is currently being developed for the North American market.
Taking over as strategy director for the section as from October 2008, Silvana Kürschner has been responsible at the Leipziger Messe up to now for marketing management and alliances. This included the acquisition of guest events, the development of national and international partnerships and various topics in new product development. As its project director, she was decisively involved in the concept for the L.A.B. which was created as the European Trade Show and Congress for Analytical, Biological and Laboratory Equipment and has been held in the UK since 2007.
Frank Sliwka, who as project director successfully developed the conferences GCDC (Leipzig) and the GCAC (Singapore) and had taken over as strategy director of GC Global for the short term, is moving in October 2008 to Global Games Media Ltd as CEO.
With Kürschner's appointment, the role of strategy director has been taken to the corporation's executive level. This means that Kürschner will be coordinating the strategic development of all games events within the Leipziger Messe corporation, including for the subsidiary Leipziger Messe International. Within the next few weeks, there will also be a new appointment to the position of project director for the GC Developers Conference (up to now Frank Sliwka).
