RUSH FOR BERLIN: SUPER WEAPONS

BASINGSTOKE, England (March 17th 2006) - DEEP SILVER and STORMREGION announce an exciting new way to experience World War II strategy gaming, in their upcoming PC DVD-ROM title; RUSH FOR BERLIN. In a desperate race against the clock to capture the German capital, players will find themselves up against the brilliance of German technology, as Super Weapons roll out onto the battlefield. Set for release 26th MAY 2006, Rush for Berlin will challenge strategy gamers to their limits.

Stormregion's new 3D real-time strategy game presents a number of super weapons for the players use. These will be much needed by the German army in 1945 if it wants to halt the Americans' assault from the west and the onslaught of the Red Army from the east, as well as launching a counter-attack. Hitler has been successfully deposed and the new government is attempting the impossible, a purpose for which historical super weapons have been provided within the game. Can they succeed?

The National Socialist propaganda machine spread information about supposedly superior arms technology in order to strengthen the Germans' resolve and keep up the belief that victory was possible. They claimed that these super weapons would guarantee a successful outcome of the war. The weapons they were referring to included not only the Messerschmitt Me 262, missile fighter planes, one-man torpedoes and miniature U-boats, but also the so-called V-weapons ("Vergeltungswaffen", which means "retaliation weapons") such as the Luftwaffe's Fi 103 flying bomb (also known as the V-1 or doodlebug), the army rocket A 4 (V-2 rocket) and large unmanned missiles and long-distance weapons that were developed over a long period of time. All these weapons failed to achieve any decisive breakthroughs against the masses of material employed by the Allies.

Some of these super weapons and prototypes will be used in Rush for Berlin.

  • Maus: Weighing in at 188 tons, this was the Germans' mightiest tank. Hitler verbally placed an order for the Maus tank with Ferdinand Porsche on 8 June 1942. Two prototypes of the Maus tank were supplied to the Wehrmacht in 1944, but both were destroyed on the testing grounds before they could fall into the hands of the advancing Red Army. A reconstruction made up of parts from both destroyed prototypes is now on display in the Russian museum of Kubinka.
  • Goliath: This was a light remote-control demolition vehicle (370 kg) which could steer explosives into enemy positions. Its original purpose was to blow up enemy positions or even tanks from a safe distance. Since the explosive charge could not be dropped, the entire vehicle was blown up in the process. In the game, the German Goliath destroys tanks.
  • Messerschmitt 262: The Me 262 was the first jet fighter in the world to be used in battle against other machines. Its wings were of a revolutionary design and made it faster than any Allied aeroplane. The German construction was the world's first jet-powered aeroplane. The game features a whole mission centring on the first jet plane in the world.
  • T-28/T-95: The American Super Heavy Tank was intended to assert itself in attacks on heavy fortifications and to be safe from any other tanks known to that day. A newly developed 105 mm quick firing cannon was to be its main armament. Though this vehicle was originally called the T-28, it was renamed T-95 after the decision was made to mount the gun at the front of the hull rather than on a turret.
  • Rheintochter: This was the name given to a German anti-air missile that was to support their AA guns. It was radio-controlled from the ground.
  • Sturmtiger: This was a combination assault gun and artillery vehicle. The lack of a rotating turret made the tank look like an assault gun. It was initially used as a supporting unit for bombarding fortifications and bunkers, and later in support of regular tank units.
