Retro Gamer
25 years of Super Mario Bros. marked with Advent calendar-style cover.
On Thursday 14 October, issue 83 of Retro Gamer goes on sale with a truly exciting and unique magazine cover to celebrate 25 years of Super Mario Bros.
Created in the style of a traditional advent calendar, 25 doors can be opened on the cover to reveal fascinating facts about Mario’s incredible career. In addition to featuring all his Super Mario outings, this innovative cover treatment details many other landmarks for the famous plumber, and is a must-own issue for any Mario fan or lover of retro gaming.
In addition to the innovative cover treatment, Mario has stamped his mark throughout the entire magazine, with special features dedicated to Nintendo’s mascot – each presented in the informative and entertaining way that only Retro Gamer can deliver. Industry luminaries including John Carmack, Trip Hawkins, David Braben, Eugene Jarvis, John Romero, Martyn Brown and many more pay homage to the portly plumber in an in-depth history article, while the popular ‘Ultimate Guide’ article is dedicated to Super Mario Bros 3, arguably the greatest 2D platformer of all time.
“I’m absolutely delighted with the way the issue and cover has turned out,” said Editor Darran Jones. “Retro Gamer always prides itself on creating new and exciting covers and I feel that this latest collaboration with Nintendo is easily our best yet.”
“It’s fantastic to be able to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros with such a special, innovate and iconic cover treatment,” added Rob Saunders, Head of Communication for Nintendo UK. “The Retro Gamer team know exactly how to appeal to their readers and how to celebrate iconic gaming moments with creativity and style.”
