Founded by former Senior Producer at Disney's Buena Vista games division, Republik Games has appointed another ex BV staff member in the role of Head of Production.
Glennis Mclellan, who was responsible for the art direction and design of girl-targeted titles at Buena Vista games, is looking forward to switching focus towards a more mature audience, as Republik continue development on their first adult oriented title.
âIâve spent the past year working on games for girls, like Cinderella, Lizzie McGuire and Thatâs So Raven,â said McClellan. âI am excited by the opportunity to create smart, fun products for women. Thereâs a myth that women arenât interested in erotic content, which is totally untrue. Women are just as interested in sex as men are, but there is little in the way of online content for this vast market. We plan to get women involved, put in features they care about and make our game both entertaining and accessible."
Republik's first game will be a female-centric, sexually-themed multiplayer dating game with community features, called 'Spend the Night.' CEO and company founder Robert Coshland is determined not to shy away from mature content in gaming, announcing that the company will be seeking an Adult Only rating for the game when it's released early in 2006.
âRepublik Games is developing a unique product that is long overdue in the online gaming community and weâre going to embrace the Adults Only rating rather than try to slip in under a Mature rating,â Coshland said.
Commenting on the appointment of McClellan, Coshland stated: âGlennis and I have been working together on and off since 1998 — we are an incredibly synergistic team. She is an exceptional artist with amazing production, design and business skills, a rare combination.â He added âShe also brings a womanâs perspective to the design of Spend the Night which will be critical for reaching the female members of our target audience.â
