Report details international economy for digital goods
Australian gamers outspend other countries; Germany has most paying users
A PlaySpan report has found that the average Australian gamer is likely to spend more on digital goods than their international counterparts, while gamers in Chile are likely to spend the least.
The study of PlaySpan customers aimed to break down where consumers were located and how much money users in individual countries spent, on average, on digital goods.
According to its data, Australian gamers generated the highest average revenue per paying user (ARPPU) at $24.38.
The US followed closely behind with an ARPPU of $22.76, followed by The Netherlands at $22.03. Of the top 20 countries Chile placed last at $2.43.
In terms of revenue percentages, the US came out on top with 42 per cent of total revenues, followed by Germany at 23 per cent, Italy with 4 per cent, Canada also with 4 per cent and Portugal with 3 per cent.
The top five countries in terms of numbers of paying users were Germany, which accounted for 29 per cent, followed by the US with 22 per cent, Italy with 9 per cent, Brazil with 4 per cent and Spain also with 4 per cent.
"As the world's largest digital goods marketplace, PlaySpan feels an obligation to share its data to enable our clients, and the industry in general, to benchmark their efforts," said Karl Mehta, the company's founder and CEO.
"The data reinforces the massive potential in the digital goods space as it drives higher monthly revenue from paying users compared to the subscription barrier of $14.99/month.
"We plan to provide regular data updates to share knowledge and help continue driving growth in the industry."
