Release date for Unreal Tournament 3 revealed at European launch event
Mark Rein on hand to crown first European UT3 champion
On November 8th Europe's premier gaming centre, Omega Sektor, played host to the launch of Epic's latest iteration in their hugely successful first-person shooter franchise, Unreal Tournament 3.
Confirmed for release on November 23rd in Europe on PC, Unreal Tournament 3 is set to unleash the full power of Epic's industry leading tech, Unreal Engine 3, taking graphics, gameplay, and A.I. to a whole new level. Speaking at the event Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games, commented, "In the past 10 years we have built up a large dedicated fanbase and keeping all of them happy is a tough task. But with UT3 we are confident that we've done a really good job of melding the best features of the whole series into brilliant new package."
On the day, dedicated Unreal Tournament enthusiasts rubbed shoulders with journalists and gaming clans alike in the first official UT3 tournament in Europe. Eventual winner Stuart Remnant walked away with a high-end SCAN PC, but for one member of Team Dignitas, a place in history beckoned! With Guinness World Records on site to award a record to whoever attained the most kills in a 30-minute deathmatch within UT3, members of Dignitas and self-proclaimed "gaming royalty" 4Kings fought out a frantic battle.
Holland native Frederiek van Gammeren (aka Frantic) took the title racking up 131 kills. Commenting on his success, he stated:
"I'm really glad I got the chance to compete in this Guinness World Record attempt. Competing against prominent players from the gaming community, and fellow Team Dignitas members in Zaccubus, astz! and Stevo, was an honour. Setting this record is an amazing achievement and the event itself will not be forgotten by those in attendance for a long time, I'm sure of that!"
