Red Rocket Games launch
New casual developer founded in Shanghai by ex-GameFly and EA chaps.
Bellevue, WA (December 18, 2008) --- Red Rocket Games was officially launched today as a new game developer focused on creating bite-size digital entertainment and casual games for the PC, Internet, handheld and iPhone markets. Headquartered in Shanghai with Bellevue, WA, offices, the company merges the best of Asia’s online gaming innovations, such as micro-transactions and avatar systems, with proven U.S. game design methodologies. The company was co-founded by Jung Suh, who was most recently the co-founder and VP of content for GameFly, and Scott Yu, formerly a technical art director at Electronic Arts. Red Rocket Games will release its first casual game in early 2009 on its own portal, as well as on sites of other distributors and publishers of casual games.
Red Rocket Games was formed in late 2005 by veterans of the Internet and video gaming industries. Co-founders Jung Suh and Scott Yu each have more than 15-years experience developing games at companies like EA, Pogo.com, Sega, Activision, and Disney Online. They saw the potential of bringing the fun game mechanics found in old-school arcade games and early console games, and were inspired to create bite-size digital entertainment with the same fun, combined with a strong, hip, and stylish design flair.
“We have an international group of mad scientists here at our Shanghai office, and everyone is tinkering around with the concepts of fun as we develop our first game,” said Jung Suh, CEO of Red Rocket Games. “It’s a great benefit to be here in China and be able to take advantage of the talent and excitement around online gaming, while at the same time having a management team with years of U.S. game development methodology experience garnered from top video game brand companies.”
Red Rocket Games is dedicated to making simple, world-class casual games that offer elegant fun without the complexity of controls or steep learning curves. The company’s multicultural development team, led by Suh and Yu, includes members from China, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia, France and the U.S. Their development team location in China allows them to outsource non-core elements easily while managing these resources closely, since they are local and onsite.
