Record sales for Pro Evo as Konami profits drop

Konami has released its latest financial report showing that profit was down 29.5 per cent for the past year, although the company's Pro Evolution Soccer has still managed to shift over eight million copies in 12 months.

Konami has released its latest financial report showing that profit was down 29.5 per cent for the past year, although the company's Pro Evolution Soccer has still managed to shift over eight million copies in 12 months.

Profits were down for Konami for the year ended March 31, with the company reporting overall net income of JPY 16.2 billion (EUR 99.1m), compared to JPY 23 billion (EUR 140.6m) the previous year

Net revenues were up to JPY 280.3 billion (EUR 1.7bn) a rise of 6.9 per cent, with operating income at JPY 28.1 billion (EUR 171m).

Konami's digital entertainment division saw net sales down to JPY 164.9 billion (EUR 1.008bn) or 0.3 per cent, and operating income fall 7.2 per cent to JPY 31.4 billion (EUR 192m).

The publisher's Pro Evolution Soccer franchise was singled out as the key performer, while strong sales were also recorded for Dance Dance Revolution and the Yu Gi Oh series'.

The publisher is expecting slower growth for the 07/08 fiscal year, with net revenues of JPY 295 billion (EUR 1.8bn) up 5.3 per cent, and operating income climb 17.3 per cent to JPY 33 billion (EUR 201m).
