Rayman spent 261 weeks in UK chart

Chart-Track archives also reveal incredible staying power for Theme Park, Worms and Brain Training

Figures obtained by GamesIndustry.biz sister site Eurogamer reveal that Ubisoft's original Rayman remained in the UK software top 40 for five years.

A delve through the Chart-Track archives discovered that the 1995 French platformer clung onto a chart position for 261 weeks – the longest of any title in the retail monitoring firm's records.

Also demonstrating remarkable longevity were Worms (239 weeks), Brain Training (190 weeks), GTA (178 weeks) and Theme Park (172 weeks).

The data also revealed the longest-ever holders of the number one chart spot. Eidos' Who Wants to be a Millionaire? racked up 18 weeks, followed by Wii Fit (16 weeks) and FIFA 96 (11 weeks), with seven games including GTA: Vice City, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Tomb Raider, Pokemon Yellow and Medal of Honor: Frontline mustering 10 weeks.

The most persistent occupant of the top ten was Brain Training for the DS, at 87 weeks. For the top five, Wii Fit managed a no doubt incredibly profitable 56 weeks – over a year in total.

More statistics are available in Eurogamer's exhaustive report.
