Rage leads E3 Game Critics Awards
Three awards for id Software's new shooter, as 3DS picks up Best of Show
Id Software's first person shooter Rage has won three separate awards at the E3 2010 Game Critics Awards, including Best Console Game, Best Action Game, and a "Special Commendation for Graphics".
Although announced in 2007, little was seen of the post-apocalyptic title, which also includes racing and action role-playing elements, until this year's E3. The game was the only title to win three awards, with its five nominations also leading the pack.
The new Nintendo 3DS portable picked up two awards, including the prestigious Best of Show and Best Hardware - beating both Kinect and Move. Harmonix's Dance Central also won two awards, with Best Original Game and "Best Motion Simulation Game".
Valve's Portal 2 was the only other nominee to win two awards, picking up Best PC Game and Best Action/Adventure Game. Electronic Arts was the most successful publisher at the awards with four wins out of 15 nominations, its best result since 2007.
The Xbox 360 format saw the greatest number of wins, with 10 exclusive or multiformat titles in the list of winners. The PlayStation 3 and PC both won nine, with the Wii picking up three, the Nintendo DS two and the PSP one.
The awards are voted on by a group of 31 exclusively American journalists, from both mainstream and specialist press outlets. A full list of judges, nominees and previous winners can be found at the official website.
