Australian games development courses to be shown off at Skills London 2008 and the BBC Blast on Tour in Oxford.

22nd July 2008.  London, UK.   Qantm College today announced its presence at at two career-influencing events aimed at 14-19 year olds. The private college will be taking a stand at Skills London 2008  - the biggest careers event for young people of the year; and joining the BBC Blast on Tour for its 3 day event in Oxford.

Nic Oliver, International & Domestic Marketing Manager for Qantm College said, “This year Qantm will not only be attending these events to represent itself, but also the game development industry as a whole. We have a national skills shortage and need to be engaging with pupils and teachers at secondary schools to highlight the great opportunities available to them. Attending Skills London and joining the BBC’s Blast Tour are just two smalls step in the right direction. We’re calling on the industry to help us do more.” 

Skills London, the UK’s biggest careers event for 14 - 19 year olds is free to enter and covers a wide range of exhibitors from creative to healthcare, construction to retail and engineering to hospitality.  The event is expecting over 50,000 visitors to attend over the three days.

Joining the BBC’s Blast on Tour in Oxford from 21st-23rd August 2008 Qantm will join a host of local creatives offering teenagers an opportunity to explore a variety of FREE workshops and showcase events. www.bbc.co.uk/blast/ontour

The fun-filled three days will offer up a  exciting and informative sessions  including Animation, Film-making, DJing, VJing, MCing, Music, Fashion, Photography, Radio, Dance and much more. Visitors will also have the chance to meet and work with industry professionals and be given tips from real people in-the-know.

Oliver added, “It is vital that younger generations are shown the relevance of studying subjects like math and physics, which can lead them into some of the most exciting careers of the 21st century. Very few people would have imagined that some of the best mathematicians in the country work on major game and 3d film titles!”

Bringing young people together with employers, colleges, universities, training providers and advisers - and with each other - is an excellent idea.
