PSP reclaims Japanese crown

Sony handheld tops chart again by a nose, but combined DS range still well ahead

Sony's PSP-3000 handheld has returned to its position as Japan's best-selling console hardware.

It crept above the DSi XL by just one thousand sales last week, though at 47,187 the combined DS range shifted almost 20,000 more units than the 27,941 of the PSP totalled with its struggling sibling, the PSPgo.

There was little change in the rest of the chart, with sales continuing to slowly decline. Despite an initial boost upon the release of the new slim model, the Xbox 360 seems once again stuck at four-figures.

Japanese hardware charts for July 12 to 18:

  • PSP – 26,786
  • DSi LL – 25,884
  • Wii – 22,239
  • PlayStation 3: 19,473
  • Nintendo DSi: 16,318
  • Xbox 360: 5936
  • Nintendo DS Lite: 4895
  • PlayStation 2: 1507
  • PSPgo: 1155
