PS3 scores second No.1 in Japanese charts

Koei's Gundam Musou has taken the top position in the latest Japanese charts, selling over 170,000 copies and giving the PlayStation 3 its second number one since the system launched last November.

A second new entry takes the number two position, with Banpresto's Super Robot Taisen W for DS selling over 139,000 copies, just ahead of last week's number one, Monster Hunter Portable 2, at number three.

Although Gundam Musou took the top spot, it was the only PlayStation 3 title in the entire top 50, while Monster Hunter Portable 2 was the only PSP title in the top 30.

No Xbox 360 titles are currently in the top fifty best-selling games in Japan.

Despite the PlayStation 3 recording an increase in hardware sales of over 100 per cent to 44,000 units, console sales for rival hardware were down.

Nintendo's DS is still the strongest performer, recording 111,926 units sold, the PSP 66,156 units and the Wii shifting 57,972 units.

Sales of Xbox 360 fell to 3,379 units, the GBA managed 1,568 units, while 303 units of the GameCube also sold.
