PS2 continues to outsell PlayStation 3 in Japan

As Nintendo's Wii outsells PS3, 360 and PS2 combined

Sales of the PlayStation 3 in Japan have dropped once again this week, leaving the PlayStation 2 to outsell its successor for the second week running.

According to figures from Media Create, the PS2 sold 8618 units for the week ended October 5, compared to 7232 PlayStation 3 units, down from over 1000 units the previous week.

Although Microsoft's Xbox 360 (8271 units) continues to outsell the PlayStation 3 in the region, it too has been outsold by the much older PS2 system.

Of all the home consoles, Nintendo's Wii continues to lead in the region, selling 25,330 units – more than the PlayStation 3, PS2 and Xbox 360 combined.

Nintendo also has the most successful handheld on the market this week, as the DS sells a further 42,385 units, with Sony's PSP shifting 26,045 units.
