Project Ignite

TIGA and Jagex team up to help small publishers launch browser-based games.

Have you developed a fantastic browser game but you can’t find anyone to play it? Are you a small developer with an amazing game idea but you don’t have time and resources to think about distribution and marketing? Project Ignite can help you. Project Ignite is a new service that will enable small developers to publish browser-based games via Jagex Game Studios. Cambridge based Jagex Game Studios currently boasts over 120 million all time active players of its online games catalogue. Project Ignite will make it possible for other developers to market their games to the Jagex community, helping small developers reach millions of potential new customers.

Project Ignite is backed by TIGA, the trade body for the UK games industry. Developers will be invited to submit game prototypes to TIGA. Successful games will then be published and promoted by Jagex via its online publishing platform (Ignite). Profits from the game will be shared between the developer and Jagex. The developer will retain all of the intellectual property rights for the game. Project Ignite is an exclusive service for TIGA members.

Mark Gerhard, CEO of Jagex stated: “Many developers have fantastic ideas and games but they struggle with distribution and marketing. At Jagex we already have an established user base of over 120 million people actively playing our games and giving us feedback. Building this community has taken a great deal of time and energy and it very difficult for small developers to build a network like this overnight. Our vision is that Jagex Game Studios will be a hub for original, creative browser based games from developers all over Europe and beyond. We are interested in hearing from any TIGA developers who have a great game they want to get in front of millions of potential customers.”

Dr. Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA stated:

“We are delighted to be working with Jagex on Project Ignite on behalf of our members. TIGA’s role in Project Ignite is to assess games submissions based on criteria including creativity, originality, playability and market demand. For us the aim of the project is to provide another benefit to our members and to promote innovation, nurture fresh talent and allow developers to publish for their games while still retaining their origin IP and independence.”
