The organisers of the first annual Game Writers Conference have confirmed details of the speakers at the two day event, which forms part of the forthcoming Austin Game Conference.
Designed as an open forum for discussion and insight into the craft of storytelling in games, the conference has already attracted a number of high profile speakers who will be sharing their knowledge, expertise and ideas for the future development of the specialist craft.
To date, the number of confirmed speakers sits at twenty, and includes Half-Life 2 writer Marc Laidlaw, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory's creative director and scriptwriter, Clint Hocking, and Star Wars Galaxies writer Aaron de Orive. The companies involved in the conference cover the entire spectrum of gaming genres, and include Microsoft Game Studios, THQ, Ubisoft, Blindlight and City of Heroes publisher NCsoft.
The topics covered provide insight, idea exchange and opportunities for the evolution of almost every aspect of the game writing business, such as creating a narrative that gamers can identify with, the language of games, collaborating with designers, writing for MMOGs and much more. A small games writing workshop for practical experience and ideas exchange will also be available.
Those who register for the Game Writers Conference will also gain access to the Women's Game Conference, which runs at the same time, and the Austin Game Conference, running from 27th to 28th October.
