PopCap signs exclusive Amazon Android deal
Chuzzle and Plants vs. Zombies also free for the first 24 hours
Peggle developer PopCap Games has signed a new agreement with Amazon, which will see Android releases gaining a two week period of exclusivity on the Amazon Appstore.
Chuzzle is available from today and will be exclusive to the Appstore until May 30. The next title to be released will be Plants vs. Zombies later this month, which will also remain exclusive to Amazon for a period of two weeks.
As an additional promotion both games will be free to download for the first 24 hours, after which they available for $2.99 each. The deal is currently only for the U.S. market and it is unclear whether any other PopCap titles will be part of the same agreement.
"Our relationship with Amazon is pivotal to PopCap's overall strategy in bringing a growing roster of mobile titles to the ever-widening base of smartphone users," said Giordano Bruno Contestabile, PopCap's senior director of global product and business strategy for mobile.
"By making these titles available on the Android platform, we'll significantly extend the reach of our top franchises to legions of new mobile customers and gaming fans alike," he said.
"PopCap is a brand synonymous with great mobile games, and we're thrilled to offer our customers Chuzzle and Plants vs. Zombies for Android exclusively through the Amazon Appstore," stated Aaron Rubenson, category leader at Amazon.
In its short time Amazon's Appstore has proven surprisingly controversial, following a legal dispute with Apple over the name and accusations from the IGDA that its terms for developers are unfair.
