Pokémon Unite named the best game at Google Play awards

Pokémon Unite has been named the best game of Google Play's Best of 2021 awards.

Google announced this year's winners via the app store's official blog, where the Pokémon MOBA was also among the Best Competitive titles.

Pokémon Unite is a joint venture between The Pokémon Company and Tencent-owned TiMi Studio Group. And it was one of four titles that won two accolades each.

Riot Games scored two victories with League of Legends: Wild Rift, a mobile-only version of its flagship MOBA -- the success of which was no doubt part of the drive behind the creation of Pokémon Unite. Wild Rift was also named in the Best Competitive category, as well as Best for Tablets.

Devolver Digital's over-the-top action title My Friend Pedro: Ripe For Revenge also won in two categories: Best for Tablets and Best Indies. Finally, Inkle's murder mystery Overboard was named among Best Game Changers and Best for Tablets.
