Pokemon GO just saw its best month since 2016
SuperData: Niantic's deluge of summer events helped the game gross $176 million in August
Pokemon Go just saw its best month for worldwide revenue since its peak in 2016, bringing in $176 million in August.
This is according to SuperData's monthly worldwide digital earnings report, which notes that a focus on events helped Niantic cash in on what has historically been the best month of the year for the seasonal mobile game.
The game topped the worldwide earnings charts for mobile last month, taking out usual chart-topper Honour of Kings.
On console, Fortnite remained firmly in place at No.1, with Madden NFL 20 at No.6 as its digital sales debuted at 6% below those of Madden NFL 19's launch month last year.
World of Warcraft Classic's launch last month drove a rise in subscriptions, with SuperData estimating subscription revenue up 223% in August compared to July. The game's total revenue for the month remains below that of Battle for Azeroth's launch month in August of 2019. This brought World of Warcraft up several places in the PC rankings to No. 3, just behind League of Legends and Dungeon Fighter Online.
