PlayStation Now to add PS4 games
Streaming service will expand catalog to current-gen console later this year
Sony is modernizing its streaming game service. The company today announced that PlayStation Now will expand its catalog to include PlayStation 4 games later this year.
PS Now currently boasts a library of nearly 500 PlayStation 3 games, and subscribers on the PS4 and PC will be able to stream those titles as well as PS4 games. Additionally, PS Now cloud saving will let players start a game on one platform and pick it up on another. It's not clear exactly when PS4 titles will be added to the mix for all users, but Sony said it will begin a by-invitation test among some PS Now subscribers in the coming weeks.
The PlayStation Now service currently supports a wide range of platforms, including PC, PS4, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation TV, Sony Bravia TVs, Samsung TVs, and Sony Blu-ray players. However, Sony last month announced that it would soon be pulling the plug on all platforms except PC and PS4, saying, "This move puts us in the best position to grow the service even further." The service will be terminated on Bravia 2016 TVs April 1, with the remainder of the platforms being cut from PS Now on August 15.
At present, Sony charges $20 for a one-month subscription to PS Now, or $45 for a three-month subscription.
