Facebook gaming interface enters public beta.

NEW YORK, NYFebruary 3, 2011 – Playhem ( www.playhem.com) is now in open beta – all gamers can now sign up and create their own micro-communities of trusted competitors to play against for prizes or cash. All signups will get 100 points they can put towards prizes.

Playhem is simple, legal, and secure. Players sign up via Facebook Connect and invite friends into private tournaments, and then Playhem’s tech handles verification of game results and the secure transfer of points or funds between player accounts. Players can challenge friends for cash (as little as $1) or choose the free point play for prizes. Online interaction between players is closely overseen at all times by full-time community managers, and proprietary statistical software monitors play patterns for irregularities.

"Adding rewards to videogame competition heats up the action, so we decided to make it easy for regular gamers to do just that,” said Charles Bellfield, interim CEO. "Playhem is not designed for professional gamers – it’s the place where players make their buddies put their money where their mouth is!”

Beyond providing players an easy way to connect and compete, Playhem allows them to track friends, create custom tournaments, chat with other gamers, and review earned and wagered points. In addition, this profile can be linked to Facebook and Twitter to share results.

The current roster of titles includes FIFA ’11, NHL ’11, and Madden NFL ’11, with NCAA Football ’11 coming shortly. An expanded list of non-sports titles – including fighting games, driving games, and first person shooters – will be announced in upcoming weeks.
