Player X snaps up Croc Mobile from Morpheme
Mobile games publisher and distributor Player X has been appointed by leading UK mobile games developer Morpheme Wireless to distribute Croc Mobile: Jungle Rumble, the mobile version of the classic console game, to more than 30 countries worldwide.
Under the terms of the two-year deal, Player X will take the game to territories as diverse as Taiwan, The Philippines, Scandanavia, Russia, Hong Kong and South Africa as well as onto more familiar terrain with pan-European operators such as Telefonica, T-Mobile and O2.
"It's great to be working with a quality developer such as Morpheme. We have an extensive global reach and understanding of mobile channels, and Morpheme makes fantastic games, so we complement each other perfectly. We are confident this is the beginning of a long relationship between the two companies," said Tony Pearce, CEO of Player X.
The mobile entertainment market is changing rapidly as operators are now demanding high-quality branded content and developers such as Morpheme are increasingly looking to third party specialists such as Player X to distribute their content. By doing so, this means developers can concentrate on their core business of making excellent games.
"Working with Player X is something we've been talking about for ages, but the time now seems right and we're looking forward to seeing people playing Croc Mobile on handsets all around the world," said Matt Spall, CEO of Morpheme Wireless.
The news follows recent success and expansion for both companies. Earlier this year, Morpheme won a BAFTA for its innovative Bluetooth Biplanes game while Player X has recently made two important strategic hires in Asia and Europe as it continues its global expansion.
Morpheme will be showcasing its new line-up at Games Market Europe, Business Design Centre, London, 31st Aug-1st Sept 2005 and the TIGA Content Market at GDCE, Cafe Royal, Piccadilly, London 31st Aug-1st Sept.
