Player X brings Scalextric to mobiles

New racer to hit handsets next month

Mobile entertainment publisher Player X has signed an exclusive deal with Hornby to produce a series of Scalextric games for mobile phones.

The first title is described as "a classic top-down racing game" that's designed for one-thumb play. The game features a track editor and five different cars, plus six tracks and Championship, Quick Race and Ghost Race modes. Gamers can earn upgrades for their cars, record their best times and race against friends. It's due for a release early next month via all major UK networks.

"We've been publishing mobile games from the very beginning and I've never seen a game that is more perfect for a mobile phone," said Player X's Tony Pearce.

"The best mobile games have one-button gameplay and that's exactly how you play Scalextric."

Hornby Hobbies CEO Frank Martin added: "The advent of the Scalextric mobile phone game in conjunction with Player X is an exciting partnership and compliments the Scalextric range perfectly."

This is not the first time Player X has signed a well-known licence - the company also published the mobile gaming tie-in for hit film Wallace & Gromit - Curse of the Were-Rabbit, and is set to publish another tie-in for the forthcoming Miami Vice movie this summer.
